What I worked on this week 4/10/2021

This is my weekly status post. This is just as a reminder of what was fascinating to work on over the past week. Expect some vagueness, because I want this to be 10 minutes or less.

Migrations: I’m working on migrating two legacy systems, one out of my control, and one under my control. The first legacy system is being migrated to another team and I spent several meetings this week with the new team to get them up to speed on how the system works. However, as with most legacy systems, its complexity works against my being able to fully explain how everything works. And this is with me working on it for 5 years!

While the second legacy system is completely under my team’s management, there are still things to be done. One of the areas I worked on this week was Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Action Groups.

Action groups are defined at the Azure Monitor level and allow for centralized management of notification channels and actions. We use it for sending alerts into our ticketing system through Azure functions.

Azure Data Factory: I’m managing the data workflows for data from our HR systems. Due to rearchitecting of internal systems, we now need to build our own pipelines for ingesting and managing various HR data streams. This beginner series by Cathrine Wilhemnson (b|t) has been really helpful.

On-Call: And I’m on call this week, so that’s fun.

Have a great weekend!
