What I worked on this week 4/3/2021

I am going to start a weekly status post. This will be a quick one, just as a reminder of what was fascinating to work on over the past week. Expect some vagueness, because I want this to be 10 minutes or less.

Azure Devops Pipelines: I spent this week helping a coworker with some pipeline automation, and then I went and refactored my testing pipelines to be more componentized. The use of templates really helps here. Every step in every job is a separate yaml file. Reusability is the keyword here.

I also need to keep reminding myself that variables can only be strings. I need to use some arrays, so they have to be parameters. Bad Dale, lost an hour re-learning that fact.

Security: We have multiple mechanisms that report security issues, both transient and architectural. I spent half the week dealing with security issues. At least some of that is being dealt with by policy. For me, it goes behavior, policy, and then processes. If we can change behavior all the better. Policy is the next step (passive change), and then forcing a process (active change) help, but it’s nothing compared to behavioral.

Migrations: We are transitioning a system to under my care, and I am spending time getting up to speed on architectural issues. This is one that is definitely fun.
